Privacy Policy
- We keep only what Sunroom needs to look after your plants.
- No ads, no tracking across other apps, and we never sell your data. We measure how the app itself is used, tied to your account, not your name.
- Plant photos you scan are sent to our AI provider, Anthropic, to answer your request, and never used to train its models.
- Delete your account in the app at any time and everything goes with it.
Who we are
Sunroom is run by Brandon Marquart ("we", "us"). You can reach us at support@trysunroom.com. This policy explains what Sunroom stores about you, why, and how to delete it.
What we collect
- Your account: your email address and a display name taken from it. Your password is handled by Google Firebase Authentication; we never see it. If you sign in with Apple, Apple shares your email address, or a private relay address that forwards to you, and your name if you choose to share it.
- A temporary account while you set up: the first steps run on an account with no email. If you leave without creating an account, the temporary account and everything in it is deleted after about an hour.
- Your home in the app: room details (name, window directions, light and humidity), where you place furniture and plants, and the plants you add (type, nickname, spot).
- Your care: watering and feeding schedules, the care you log, health scans and their results, and your reminder settings.
- Photos: pictures you take or choose to identify a plant or check its health, and any note or symptoms you add to a scan. Identification photos are deleted as soon as the plant is identified; health scan photos are deleted after 30 days.
- Usage counts: how many scans and photo IDs you have used, so we can apply the plan limits, and whether you subscribe to Premium.
- How the app is used: which screens you open and what you do in them (for example finishing setup, watering a plant, opening or closing the Premium page), with your device type and app version. This is collected by PostHog and tied to your account ID, not your name or email. We use it only to see which parts of Sunroom work and to improve them.
- Crash and error reports: when the app crashes or something fails, PostHog receives a report of the error, where in the app it happened, your device type and app version, tied to your account ID. We use it only to find and fix problems.
We do not collect your location, contacts, advertising identifier or browsing activity, and the app contains no advertising. Reminders are scheduled on your phone.
How we use it
- To run the app: show your plants and room, work out watering and feeding schedules, and schedule your reminders.
- To identify plants and check their health when you ask (see "AI features" below).
- To apply free and Premium limits, prevent abuse, and keep the service working.
- To answer you when you contact us.
We do not sell your data, share it for advertising, or use it to track you across other apps.
AI features
When you identify a plant or run a health scan, the photo is sent to Anthropic, which runs the Claude AI model on our behalf. For a health scan we also send the plant’s details from the app: its type, spot, your room’s light and humidity, its recent care, and any symptoms or note you add.
Anthropic uses this to produce your answer. It may keep it for a short time, for example to check for misuse, under commercial terms that do not allow it to train its models on the data. Its handling is described in Anthropic’s privacy policy.
Before your first scan or photo ID, the app asks whether you agree to this. Nothing is sent to Anthropic unless you do.
Who else handles your data
- Google Firebase (Google Cloud) stores your account, app data and photos and runs our server code. Data may be stored in the United States.
- PostHog stores the usage analytics and crash and error reports described above, in the United States.
- Anthropic processes photos and plant details for AI features, as above.
- Apple handles App Store purchases. We never receive your payment details.
- RevenueCat records your subscription status, so the app knows which plan you are on.
Each provider may only use your data to provide its service to us.
How long we keep it
Photos you use to identify a plant are deleted as soon as it has been identified. Health scan photos are deleted 30 days after the scan; the scan result itself stays with your plant.
Everything else is kept while your account exists. When you delete your account, your plants, room, care history, scans, photos, sign-in and subscription record at RevenueCat are deleted straight away. If you signed in with Apple, Sunroom’s access to your Apple ID is revoked too. Deleting your account does not cancel an App Store subscription; cancel it in your Apple ID settings. Our providers may keep server logs and backups for a limited time before they expire.
Your choices and rights
- See and change your information in the app at any time.
- Delete your account and all its data in the app: Account → Delete account.
- Ask for a copy of your data, or ask anything about it, at support@trysunroom.com.
Depending on where you live (for example the EU, the UK or California), you may have further rights, such as to access, correct, move or object to the use of your data. Contact us and we will help.
Children
Sunroom is not meant for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us at support@trysunroom.com and we will delete it.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit, and our database and file storage only let each account reach its own data. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect yours.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy in a meaningful way, we will update the effective date and ask you to accept it again in the app.
